NEMO and OBMIN launch cooperation to support Ukrainian museums
February, 2025
On 11 February 2025, the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) and the
OBMIN Foundation signed a strategic cooperation agreement for 2025-2028 aimed at
enhancing support for museums and museum professionals across #Ukraine.
A key priority of the partnership is to foster greater collaboration and exchange between Ukrainian museum professionals and their European colleagues, strengthening professional networks and facilitating knowledge-sharing.
Established in the summer of 2022, the OBMIN Foundation began as a platform for Ukrainian museums and was formally registered as a foundation in Warsaw, Poland, in December 2022. Currently, it represents 147 museums from various regions of Ukraine, including prominent institutions like the Maidan Museum and the Second World War Museum in Kyiv, as well as numerous smaller museums dedicated to regional history and culture.
NEMO, founded in 1992, serves as an independent network representing the museum community of the member states of the Council of Europe. Together, NEMO’s members speak for more than 30,000 museums across Europe.
As part of the cooperation agreement, NEMO will be an official partner of OBMIN’s international conference ‘Resilience. Recovery. Future.,’ scheduled for 26-27 June 2025 in Warsaw, Poland. The conference as well as the partnership aims to advance key areas such as digitisation, social engagement, modern museum management, and international cooperation among museums. Beyond the conference, NEMO and OBMIN plan to develop additional joint projects, working together to identify and implement future initiatives that will further support and strengthen the Ukrainian museum sector.
