A NEW SERIES OF WORKSHOP #MUSEUMS HAVE A VOICE
“Decolonizing a Museum: History, Theory, Best Practices”

The seminar will focus on identifying and deconstructing cultural hegemony and colonial discourse, examining their impact on societies. Participants will explore the significance of acknowledging democratic values in the process of cultural development. The discussion will also address the need to replace Soviet/Russian imperialism with a unique Ukrainian local culture in a global context, promoting diversity and intercultural understanding.

The series of meetings will be led by Dr Elżbieta Kwiecinska - PhD, Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences. Her research interests include the methodology and history of historiography, as well as the intellectual, cultural and social history of Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Ashkenazi Jews in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with particular emphasis on national processes and colonial studies. In her research, she adopts the perspective of global and transnational history.

A cycle of six online seminars will be held around the topic of Decolonizing a Museum and will take the form of a lecture.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts using microphones or via chat. Seminars in Ukrainian language only
