ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF IVAN FRANKO LVIV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY
The Archaeological Museum of Ivan Franko Lviv National University is one of the oldest specialized university museums in Ukraine. The beginnings of archaeological studies at the University date back to the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, with the establishment of the Archaeological Cabinet (1880) and the Department of Prehistory and Classical Archaeology (1905). The further development of the museum is linked to the work of the Departments of Classical Archaeology (1916–1939), Prehistory (1921–1939), History of Material Culture and Archaeology (1939–1941), History of the Ancient World and Archaeology (1944–1949), Archaeology, Antiquity and the Middle Ages (1994–2004), Archaeology and History of the Ancient World (2004–2010), Archaeology and Specialized Branches of Historical Science (since 2010).
Today, the museum’s collection contains over 50,000 storage units, of which 1,400 are displayed. The exhibition presents the material and spiritual culture of the populations of Volhynia and the Carpathian region from the Paleolithic to the princely era. Exhibits include artifacts from key sites such as Molodove (Paleolithic), Tadani (Chalcolithic), Zymno (Chalcolithic, Early Slavs), Holyshev (Chalcolithic), Lystvyn (Chalcolithic, Princely era), Koshylivtsi, Bilche-Zolote (Chalcolithic), Zoziv, Ivannya, Ostrivets (Bronze Age), Chekhy, Derevlyany, Zolochiv, Lahodiv, Cherepyn (Early Iron Age), Chyzhykiv (Early Roman Period), Ripniv, Bovshiv (Late Roman Period, Early Slavs), and Plisnesko (Princely era).
