
ODESA LOCAL LORE AND HISTORY MUSEUM
The Odesa Regional History Museum was established in 1955 and opened for visitors in 1956. The Museum’s extensive collection includes 120,000 artifacts, such as icons, paintings, weapons, numismatic and cartographic materials, photographs and documents.
It is a museum of a complex profile, which combines documentary, architectural, artistic, numismatic, ethnographic scientific components of the history of the city and the region. It consists of:
- the main exposition in the palace-type building with exposition, dedicated to significant events in national and regional history.
- “Stepova Ukraina /Steppe Ukraine” Museum - an educational ethnographic complex. It focuses on the region’s multicultural identity, showcasing traditional costumes and home interiors.
- the Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Odesa, dedicated to the city’s 1941 defense. This complex includes the 411th Coastal Battery positions, a museum, and an open-air museum of WWII military weapons and equipment.
