KHERSON REGIONAL MUSEUM OF LOCAL LORE
The Kherson Regional Museum of Local History was founded in 1890 by the famous Ukrainian public figure, archaeologist and local historian V.I. Goshkevich. It is a museum complex of historical, natural history, literary and ethnographic sections. Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and the occupation of Kherson, the museum's collections included more than 190,000 museum objects. The history section presented the diversity of the region's history: from Scythian gold jewellery and ancient Greek marble sculptures to Cossack weapons, the first drawings of the Kherson fortress and works of art from past centuries. Ethnographic objects were of particular interest to visitors, as they testified to the multinational composition of the region. Unique book editions, the most valuable collections of ex-libris and engravings, manuscripts, original paintings, historical and memorabilia of prominent writers who belonged to the world literary elite, such as M. Kulish, O. Kruchonykh, D. Burliuk, B. Lavreniov and others, were exhibited in the literary department of the museum. The natural history section is based on a unique collection of flora and fauna of the Kherson region, created at the end of the 19th century by the famous biologist Y.K. Pachoskyi. During the occupation of the city in 2022, the armed forces of the Russian Federation stole the most valuable part of the collections of the Kherson Regional Museum of Local Lore. After the liberation of Kherson, the museum collections remaining in the city were moved to a safe place.https://hokm.ks.ua/
