MILITARY-HISTORICAL MUSEUM NAMED AFTER SUVOROV, OCHAKIV
The Ochakiv Military-Historical Museum named after O.V. Suvorov is one of the most important cultural and historical institutions in southern Ukraine, introducing visitors to the centuries-old history of Ochakiv and its role in defending Ukrainian lands.
The museum was founded in 1972 and is located in the city of Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region. Initially, its exhibition was housed in a former Turkish mosque, but in 2000, the collection was moved to a modern building.
The museum's exhibition is dedicated to the heroic chapters of Ochakiv's history, including the assault on Ochakiv fortress on December 6, 1788, which became a significant milestone in the struggle to liberate the Black Sea region from threats. A significant portion of the exhibition is devoted to events that highlight Ochakiv's role in the development of Ukrainian statehood, including periods of liberation movements, as well as the First and Second World Wars.
The exhibits include ancient weapons, historical maps, documents, rare editions, and personal belongings of prominent Ukrainian figures. A separate hall of the museum is dedicated to archaeological finds that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Black Sea region.
One of the most notable parts of the exhibition is the diorama "The Assault on Ochakiv Fortress," which vividly depicts the events of the battle. Despite difficulties in placing it in the new building, the diorama remains a symbol of the resilience and heroism of Ukrainian warriors.
The museum is a vital center for promoting Ukrainian history and preserving its rich cultural heritage.
