About:
Conference: “Filling Blind Spots 2.0: New Narratives and the Role of Museums in the Reconstruction of Ukraine.” Organised by OBMIN
4-5.11.2024 Warsaw

The major topic of the third conference organized by OBMIN will turn around the necessity of new narratives for these museums and to decolonize them in a professional way, reflecting the complexity of this need. Museums need to reflect changing societal expectations and demands. The war raised by Russia and its consequences also requires museums to change the topics they present and how they do it. Already started at the end of August, these Ukrainian museums have started to prepare these topics in biweekly online workshops. They will also work on shared thoughts on what is necessary for new narratives and for decolonizing museum artefacts and exhibitions.
At the same time, these topics are not unique for Ukraine but a challenge everywhere. Therefore, the conference will bring together experts from other countries to enable a broad discussion, including the Ukrainian experience.
